Solar Panels

How much do solar panels cost on the Sunshine Coast? +

It depends on your setup. The main variables are:

  • System size: Based on your energy usage and roof space (typically 6.6kW-13kW for homes)
  • Panel brand: We use quality panels (Jinko, Trina, Aiko) that cost more upfront but hold up over time
  • Roof complexity: Multi-storey homes, steep pitches, or tiled roofs take more time to install
  • Inverter type: Standard string inverter vs. hybrid (battery-ready) system
  • Network connection: Energex approval requirements vary by location

All quotes include installation, grid connection, permits, and full warranties. STCs are already deducted from the price.

How long does solar installation take? +

The install itself usually takes one day on-site. The full process looks like this:

  • Week 1: Site assessment and quote
  • Week 1-2: Permits and Energex approval
  • Install day: One day on-site in most cases
  • After install: Final inspection and grid connection

From quote acceptance to system switched on, allow around 3-4 weeks.

Will solar panels work on cloudy days? +

Yes, just at reduced output. On overcast days you might see 10-25% of peak production. The Sunshine Coast gets solid sun year-round, so this rarely has a significant impact on your overall generation.

What size solar system do I need? +

It depends on your daily electricity use and how much usable roof space you have. As a rough guide:

  • Small household (10-15kWh/day): 5-6.6kW system
  • Medium household (20-30kWh/day): 8-10kW system
  • Large household (40+kWh/day): 13kW+ system

We look at your bills and your roof and give you a specific recommendation rather than a generic size.

Battery Storage

How much do battery storage systems cost? +

Battery pricing varies based on a few factors:

  • Capacity needed: Based on your evening and overnight usage (typically 10-20kWh for most homes)
  • Brand: GoodWe ESA Lynx is solid value; Sigenergy SigenStor has a longer warranty and more advanced monitoring
  • Existing solar: Retrofitting to an older system may require an inverter replacement
  • Backup requirements: Whole-home backup costs more than essential circuits only
  • Expandability: Both brands are modular, so you can start with one unit and add more later

All quotes include the hybrid inverter, installation, monitoring, and full warranties. STCs are deducted and we handle the paperwork.

Is a solar battery worth it in Queensland? +

It depends on how much electricity you use in the evenings and what you pay for grid power. Feed-in tariffs have dropped significantly over the past few years, so storing your solar energy instead of exporting it makes more financial sense than it used to.

If you have heavy evening loads, run a pool, EV, or air conditioning overnight, or want backup power during outages, the numbers tend to stack up. We run through the figures with you during the quote so you can make an informed call.

GoodWe vs Sigenergy - which battery should I choose? +

Both are quality systems we stand behind. The difference comes down to budget and requirements:

GoodWe ESA Lynx:

  • 8.3kWh per module, expandable to 50kWh+
  • Reliable performance, good monitoring
  • 10-year warranty
  • AC or DC coupled options
  • Well suited to most standard residential installs

Sigenergy SigenStor:

  • 9kWh per module, scalable to 54kWh
  • Advanced energy management and monitoring
  • 10-year warranty, extendable to 15 years
  • Compact design, handles complex setups well
  • Higher upfront cost, longer warranty period

If GoodWe fits your budget and your setup is straightforward, it's a solid choice. If you want a longer warranty and more detailed monitoring, Sigenergy is worth the extra. We'll help you work out which one suits your situation.

Can I add a battery to my existing solar system? +

In most cases, yes. We typically replace the existing inverter with a modern hybrid unit that integrates the battery directly. Your solar panels stay in place.

Why replace the inverter?

  • DC-coupled systems are more efficient than AC-coupled retrofits
  • Better integration between solar and battery
  • Cleaner install with less equipment
  • Advanced monitoring and energy management
  • Often more cost-effective overall

We'll look at your current setup and tell you exactly what's involved before any work starts.

Rebates & Incentives

What solar rebates are available in Queensland? +

The main federal incentive is Small-scale Technology Certificates (STCs). These reduce the upfront cost of your system, and the value varies based on system size. The scheme winds down progressively toward 2030, so the rebate is worth more now than it will be in future years.

We deduct the STC value from your quote and handle the paperwork. You don't need to apply separately.

Feed-in tariffs (what your retailer pays you for solar exported to the grid) are set by your energy retailer and vary. Your retailer can tell you the current rate.

Do batteries qualify for STC rebates? +

Yes. Battery installations are eligible for STCs under the federal renewable energy scheme. The rebate value depends on battery capacity and your location zone.

  • Available for new battery installations (with or without solar)
  • We create and assign the certificates on your behalf
  • The value is already deducted from your quote

STC values and eligibility rules can change. Contact us for current figures specific to your installation.

Installation & Service

What's the maximum inverter size I can install at my property? +

It depends on your connection type and your street's network capacity. As a general guide, Energex allows:

  • Single-phase connection: Up to 10kW inverter. You can size your panels above the inverter rating, which is standard practice and worth discussing when we quote.
  • Three-phase connection: Up to 30kW with export limiting
  • Export limiting: Allows larger systems where the network has lower capacity

You can check your street's capacity on the Energex Network Capacity Map, or we can check it for you when we quote. We handle all Energex applications.

Why choose Flux Electrical over other solar companies? +

We're electricians, not salespeople. The person quoting your job is qualified to install it. We don't use subcontractors.

  • In business since 2010 on the Sunshine Coast
  • 5.0 stars across 100+ Google reviews
  • SAA accredited and NETCC accredited
  • Quality products only - Sigenergy, GoodWe, Tesla, Sungrow, Jinko, Trina, Aiko
  • We handle Energex applications and guide you through the energy retailer process
  • Local support - we're here after the install, not just during it

We'd rather lose a job than cut corners. Sometimes that means we're not the cheapest quote. We're fine with that.

What areas do you service? +

We service the Sunshine Coast and surrounding areas, including:

  • Caloundra, Pelican Waters, Golden Beach
  • Kawana, Buddina, Bokarina, Warana
  • Maroochydore, Buderim, Mooloolaba
  • Coolum, Peregian, Noosa
  • Glass House Mountains, Landsborough, Beerwah
  • Nambour, Yandina, Eumundi

We also service Brisbane and the Moreton Bay Region by arrangement.

What warranties do you offer? +

All systems come with manufacturer warranties plus our own workmanship guarantee:

  • Solar panels: 25-year product warranty, 25-year performance warranty
  • Inverters: 5-10 year manufacturer warranty
  • Batteries: 10 years (GoodWe), 10 years base, extendable to 15 (Sigenergy), 10 years (Tesla Powerwall), 10 years (Sungrow)
  • Installation workmanship: Guaranteed - we're a local business and we stand behind our work

We're based on the Sunshine Coast, so if something comes up during the warranty period, we're not hard to reach.

Do I need a 3-phase system? +

Most homes on the Sunshine Coast are single-phase, and that's fine for standard solar. You would need a three-phase inverter if:

  • Your property already has three-phase power (check your switchboard)
  • You're installing a large system over 15kW
  • You have significant three-phase loads such as large machinery or commercial equipment

We'll work out the right setup when we visit your property.
